About the city

Liberal is a city preparing for the future while preserving the best of its past. Seward County is the fifth fastest growing county in Kansas, with Liberal growing significantly faster than most rural Kansas communities. Liberal newcomers are welcome and invited to get involved in the community. A variety of housing is available in the area in a wide range of prices, including numerous apartment complexes, as well as homes located along a golf course, around a lake inside the city, and along a country golf course. The Economic backbone of the area includes a mix of agribusiness and industry. Major businesses include beef and pork production and processing, oil and gas, truck transportation, education, cotton warehousing, grain production, packaged foods, ethanol production and trailer manufacturing. Liberal has invested 23.6 million dollars in education in the past few years to either build new facilities or remodel existing buildings. The Liberal Senior High School offers two major graduation programs: College Prep and Tech Prep (2+2). The Southwest Kansas Technical School and Seward County Community College offer courses to approximately 3,000 post secondary students. The Epworth Hospital Building has been renovated and now serves as the Allied Health Center, part of Seward County Community College, including training in nursing, medical laboratory technology and respiratory therapy. The city features several museums, including the Mid-America Air Museum, which boasts the fifth largest collection of military and civilian aircraft in the United States. Whether you enjoy golfing, hunting, fishing, bowling, tennis, roller- blading, swimming, camping, dancing, playing ball, soccer, or auto racing, there's always plenty of recreational activities available. Even with all its recent advancements, Liberal retains the charm and beauty of a small rural town.
