Self Driving Truck of the Future

You may have heard about Freightliner Trucks testing a driverless semi in Europe, well, now it's come to Nevada.  The truck, still in test mode, could be released for public use by 2025.  The current design allows the driver to let the truck take control only on the highway, maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles and staying in its lane.  It won't pass slower vehicles on its own.  If the truck encounters a situation it can't confidently handle it will alert the human that it's time for him to take over, via beeps and icons on the dashboard.  If the driver doesn't respond in about five seconds, the truck will slow down gradually, then stop.  If the Jetsons could see this now!  Read the linked article from Wired for more information.  This is one more example of why Freightliner Trucks is #1.
